oh this is so good and spoke to me 😭 some years ago, I decided to be a chronic minimalist, would only buy second hand, would constantly underpack for trips, would live in my apartment without even a couch for a year. But something really clicked recently when it comes to investing in things/clothes I love and how important it is in influencing how I feel about everything. This article is so so good and well written and I don't think it was a far stretch at all.

Haven't gotten thorough this one yet, always LOVE to read what you have to say ❣️

although I will mention as I have been doing lately... PLEASE can we all drop Anais Nin already, she was psychotic and made horrid choices and should never be used as a good example to reference. Any quote / message of her that we like has already been said or said in other words by much kinder, wiser, more human people. That's all I feel I must say 💌🙏🏼

I’m having this convo elsewhere and also wanted to add here:

"Unarguably, too, there is much that might produce the wrong kind of rise in Nin’s erotica – in particular, she presents scenes of pederasty not only without moral judgment, but with a sympathetic, kindly attitude towards her paedophiles."

From one of many that are out there, terrible articles by academics who argue for 'pride in her shamelessness’ they are saying it’s the wrong response to criticize her work, life, opinions.

"In her writing, she refuses to moralise. Instead, she shows us the dingiest, most labyrinthine corners of human sexuality and relationships: the petty deceits, the self-aggrandisements, the fetishes, power games, and transgressions."

When you Google ‘Anais Nin opposition’ you don’t find any results, just a lot of this justification. Makes me think she’s part of the undeniable agenda to normalize pedophelia in society as a mental illness to be understood and accepted compassionately-not from love to support the person in changing their behaviour-but because elite want to be able to harm in these darkest ways more publicly and get away with it.

This is so beautiful Emmie, thank you for sharing. Lately I bought a bunch of notebooks to learn German with. I bought all the textbooks and I lug them around with me through the city. On my bike, on the Ubahn, everywhere. I write by hand in them and messily scribble things everywhere.

It is soothing and nice and it works. I learn better than I ever would if my thoughts and vocabulary stayed in my google doc.

Such a great essay, thank you ! I used to travel way too light as well but the last time I went to Japan, I decided to bring an extra suitcase, empty. Although it seemed like a luxury I’m so glad I did. I now have beautiful “mingei” ceramics that I use at home everyday and they bring me back to that feeling of serenity I felt during my trip 💕

So beautiful and liberating too! I love how you turn the ideal of the effortless small-suitcase woman on its head. It's just another we've been encouraged to deny our needs and stay small 🩷

I love this piece! And I remember when you had to borrow Shirley’s wardrobe the day we met in Paris because of laundry day 💛

Such a beautifull essay ! "An archival life " : I love that ! My daughter is like you for clothes and suitcases, I love traveling with a little suitcase. When she was a teenager she said : "How hard it is to be maximalist when you have a minimalist mother". Ah ah ! Children are our (very funny) teachers ! What was the coffee shop you were in front of in Paris on the photograph ? And can we still purchase your book ? Have a wonderful Sunday Emmie, full of rest after the retreat 🌻.

Emmie, this was divine. I kind of wanted to cry. The gentleness. To be "need-less". Ugh. As always, it was never about the suitcase. Thank you x
